V-Guard Launches ‘Cancer Shield’ Initiative to Promote Cancer Awareness Among Police Personnel

Kochi, 30th October, 2025: V-Guard Industries Ltd., in collaboration with the Kerala Police Association and Rajagiri Hospital, launched its new CSR initiative, “Cancer Shield,” in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The program aims to promote cancer prevention, awareness, and early detection among police personnel and their families. The ceremony was held at the Kochi City Police District Training Centre at AR Camp, Marine Drive, Kochi, with Aswathy Jiji, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kochi City inaugurating the initiative with Mithun K. Chittilappilly, Managing Director, V-Guard Industries Ltd. and Dr. Reenaa Mithun Chittilappilly presiding over the event.

Cancer continues to be one of the most serious public health challenges in India, with over 14 lakh new cases reported every year. Kerala has the highest cancer incidence rate in the country with more than 135 cases per 1,00,000 population with approximately 40,000 new cases annually. Late-stage diagnoses remain a significant concern, as nearly 60% of cases are detected only at advanced stages.

Speaking at the launch, Aswathy Jiji, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kochi City, said: “Police personnel often neglect their own health while dedicating themselves to the safety and welfare of society. Initiatives like ‘Cancer Shield’ by V-Guard are assets as they bring quality healthcare directly to our teams”.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Mithun K. Chittilappilly, Managing Director of V-Guard Industries Ltd., said, “This initiative is our small tribute to the Kerala Police force for their relentless service. With ‘Cancer Shield’, we hope to extend care to those who dedicate their lives to the safety of others. Early detection can save lives, and we see this as our collective responsibility.”

Dr. Reenaa Mithun Chittilappilly added, “Cancer awareness and early screening are key to saving lives. Through ‘Cancer Shield’, we aim to emphasize the importance of regular check-ups and preventive health practices, especially for individuals working under high stress.” She stated that the program underscores V-Guard’s deep commitment to supporting the health and welfare of those who protect and serve the community.

Through “Cancer Shield”, V-Guard, in partnership with Rajagiri Hospital, will organize a series of comprehensive screening and awareness camps across police quarters in Ernakulam. These camps will employ a fully equipped mobile medical bus featuring advanced mammography and ultrasound facilities.

The initiative will offer:

 Awareness sessions on cancer prevention and healthy lifestyle practices

  1.  Clinical examinations and screenings for early detection, including ultrasound breast scans for women aged 30–40 and mammograms for women above 40
  2.  Free blood sugar and blood pressure check-ups
  3.  On-the-spot reporting within 30 minutes
  4.  Medical referral and treatment facilitation for individuals requiring further care

In its initial phase, “Cancer Shield” aims to conduct 10–20 camps, reaching nearly 1,000 beneficiaries. The program intends to set a benchmark in community-oriented healthcare interventions by fostering a culture of proactive health screening and early detection.

Vinod P Varghese, District Secretary, Kerala Police Association; N V Nishanth, Vice President, Kerala Police Officers Association; Rev. Fr. Joy Kilikkunnel CMI, Director, Administration, Rajagiri Hospital, were also present at the event.
