The Learning Laboratory at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology has bagged the prestigious RIBA International Award for Excellence 2024 from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), one of the most distinguished bodies of international recognition in architecture. This coveted award celebrates architectural brilliance on a global platform and is a torchbearer showcasing the daring vision, teamwork, and engineering ingenuity that went behind the achievement of this landmark project by Perceptive Ideas Consulting Engineers.
The Learning Laboratory stands out for its avant-garde design in which all structural components are exposed to the atmosphere. The building thus becomes a living showcase of engineering expression.
This architectural marvel required an elegant, high-precision structural solution that would address aesthetic considerations but also sustainability and strength. And Perceptive Ideas met this challenge with creative insight and consummate expertise.
“We take pride in being part of a project that serves to contribute to academia and set a precedent for structural creativity,” said Mr Ajay Gupta, Principal Consultant & Founder of Perceptive Ideas. “The RIBA recognition is a testimonial to our firm commitment to thoughtfulness in engineering and a collaborative level of excellence.”
Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology had the vision of an avant-garde academic space for the Learning Laboratory, where the structure permits open learning interactions by celebrating material honesty and the clarity of exposed elements of construction.
The RIBA International Award marks the beginning of a huge success story for the institute and, further, India’s emergence on the world map of architectural and structural excellence. It also marks how engineering, paired greatly with design, built environmentally-friendly buildings that are both sustainable and sturdy. This award further lays emphasis on the fact that interdisciplinary cooperation still holds importance in design, where architecture and engineering actually create spaces for inspiration.
