New Delhi, Sep 9: The Centre has launched a new portal to improve the way government departments collect, manage and share data, with the aim of making policymaking more effective and public services more responsive.
The Quarterly Progress Report (QPR) Portal on Data Harmonisation will be used by Union Ministries, departments and government organisations to improve the quality and consistency of their datasets.
The new platform will help departments organise and standardise information, prepare metadata and follow common data standards. It also includes automated validation, dashboards and analytical tools to help officials monitor progress and identify gaps in government data.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the problem of departments maintaining data in separate systems. By making information easier to share and compare, the government expects to build a more connected data system that can support better planning and decision-making.
Reliable data is increasingly important as governments use technology and Artificial Intelligence to deliver services. MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan highlighted the importance of high-quality and accessible data for the effective use of AI in government.
MoSPI Secretary Saurabh Garg said government departments need to move away from isolated data systems and work towards a more integrated and interoperable data ecosystem.
The portal will also support coordination between Statistical Advisers and Chief Data Officers, helping departments improve data quality and make greater use of the information they already collect.
The new initiative is expected to strengthen data-driven governance, improve monitoring of government programmes and support more efficient delivery of public services. It also marks another step towards building a modern digital ecosystem where government data can be used more effectively for the benefit of citizens.
