In collaboration with HDFC Bank Parivartan and Satara District Health Department, this program will reach out to over 1.5 lakh plus people through community awareness sessions.

Mumbai, Dec 12: The Indian Cancer Society (ICS), in partnership with HDFC Bank Parivartan, Satara District health department has launched a community-focused initiative aimed at strengthening cancer awareness in select Talukas of Satara, Karad, Jawali & Patan and screening in Satara. This comprehensive program, supported by the Satara District Health Department, Zilha Parishad will include training for Medical Officers, Community Health Officers, and Frontline Healthcare Workers to spread awareness across the talukas of Satara. It will also offer free screening for oral, breast, and cervical cancers, thus addressing all essential components of the cancer care continuum.
Designed to complement government efforts, particularly for underprivileged communities, the program aims to reach over 1.5 lakh people through community awareness sessions and more than 5 lakh individuals through mass media outreach across Satara, Karad, Patan and Jawali. With the cooperation of ICS’s affiliate Oncolife Cancer Centre, community cancer screening initiative will cover 3150 people and raise awareness amongst an additional 100,000 people. Screening will be done for Oral, Breast & Cervical cancer with HPV DNA test methodology,
The program not only aims to raise awareness about these prevalent cancers but also seeks to reduce the fear and stigma surrounding them—fostering a more positive outlook and encouraging regular screenings as a proactive step toward early detection and better outcomes.
Additionally, the initiative will also undertake targeted educational efforts in schools and colleges to promote early awareness and lay the foundation for a more informed, vigilant, and health-conscious generation.

Dr Mahesh Khalipe, District Health Officer, Satara mentioned that this project will help in capacity building of Medical officers, Community health officers and frontline workers in raising awareness about common cancers (e.g. oral, breast and cervical cancer) in society thereby encouraging early detection through screening and help in reducing the burden of cancers.
