Bengaluru, 15th November 2022: Aster CMI Hospital’s nursing department was given an insightful training session by Anna Qabale Duba, the world’s best nurse, and a global symbol. For supporting education and waging a campaign against antiquated cultural practises like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in her Kenyan community, Anna, a nurse stationed at the Kenya Marsabit County Referral Hospital, was the inaugural recipient of the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.

Duba, who won US$250,000 (about Ksh.29 million) in prize money, is now making use of the opportunity to construct a school in the isolated Kenyan village of Turbi. She intends to close the literacy gap in North Kenya’s nomadic rural community. She has made a big contribution to lowering the frequency of female genital mutilation and early marriage through her selfless work with the Qabale Duba Foundation. For her social charity, she was named one of the top 100 most influential young Africans in 2020. She has successfully completed five programmes and twenty projects for the Qabale Duba Foundation mentored more than three thousand people and received more than ten awards.
“It is an honour to be able to share one’s path with the world, and I sincerely wish to motivate more individuals to become nurses and give back to their communities. As nurses, we have the chance to heal our patients’ hearts, minds, and bodies.”, said Anna.
Mr. S Ramesh Kumar, CEO of Aster CMI Hospital said, “Nurses are the heart of healthcare, with doctors serving as its brain. Hearing Miss Anna’s moving story fills us with joy, and we would like to extend our sincere congratulations to her on winning the inaugural Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award. We genuinely hope that her inspiring tale continues to motivate many others. She has made a wonderful contribution to the nursing profession and to the healthcare industry.”
