SurTech Successfully Concludes 1st All India Open International FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2023
Kolkata, 17 April 2023: Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex, under the JIS Group, successfully conducted the closing ceremony of the 1st All India Open International FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2023. The tournament was scheduled from April 11th to April 16th, 2023, at the SurTech campus in Dum Dum, Kolkata. The closing ceremony was held on April 16th in the esteemed presence of Mr. Dibyendu Barua, India Chess Grandmaster, Mr. Swapan Chakraborty, Tournament Director, IA Debasish Barua, Chief Arbiter, and Prof. (Dr.) Saradindu Panda, Principal, Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex.
The tournament was a unique opportunity for chess players to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level. After tough competition, Kaustav Kundu emerged as the winner. Anurag Jaiswal secured the position of first runner-up, and Arpan Das was announced as the second runner-up. The tournament attracted participants from all over the world and India, making it a special occasion for everyone. There were about 225 players from 8 different Indian states. The states that participated included Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Assam, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. The tournament was played under Swiss system format with 9 rounds. The Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex, under the JIS Group of colleges, had created a remarkable platform for the promotion and development of chess in India. The ceremony promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the winners and the game of chess. Overall, the 1st All–India Open International FIDE–Rated Chess Tournament 2023 was a successful event, and the closing ceremony promised to be a fitting finale to this exciting tournament.
