New Delhi: As part of the community empowerment initiative, Kai India, the Indian arm of the legendary 114 years old Japanese group – KAI, supported libraries in two schools of Imphal, the capital of Manipur.

The community empowerment program called Kai India Children Library Program focuses on the development of sustained reading habits among school children. Under this program, Kai India set up library corners with over 500 books each in two schools namely Eastern Ideal High School, Imphal East, and Keishamthong High School, Imphal West.

As part of the community development initiative, Kai India supported two schools in building and operating libraries to enable & support students in developing an interest in reading. These efforts are a few steps contributing to our dream of 100% literacy & promoted higher education levels in India. This annual book and library engagement plan has been specially crafted for children, as well as for teachers which include reading activities like Read-Aloud for children and an orientation program for teachers focusing on the overall operations and activities related to the library.

“Kai India Children Library program aims to provide access to children in government schools to high-quality children’s literature as well as provide support for building sustained reading habits. KAI India firmly believes that sustained reading habit and exposure to fine literature goes a long way in empowering the community and building a successful future for children. KAI India would also be providing a few Japanese books(English language) to expose children to rich Japanese culture,” said Mr. Rajesh U Pandya, Managing Director, KAI India.

On the selection of Manipur as the state of first library program roll-out, Mr. Pandya informed that “Kai India’s mission to promote education in the underserved parts of India especially Manipur emerged from the belief that the development of children and community starts with early and quality education coupled with the fact that the lesser represented regions like Manipur have huge untapped potential which needs special attention”.
