Mumbai, June 06th, 2025: In a significant initiative to promote environmental awareness and civic responsibility, the Kamala Ankibai Ghamandiram Gowani Trust, under the leadership of Trustee Nidarshana Gowani, joined hands with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to observe World Environment Day through impactful on-ground activities in and around Prabhadevi Railway Station.
The day commenced with a large-scale cleanliness drive, where volunteers from the Trust, in collaboration with BMC workers, cleaned both sides of the road stretch from the station to the main signal. This initiative was not merely symbolic—it represented a collective commitment to public hygiene and sustainable urban living.
To encourage eco-conscious behavior among citizens, the Trust distributed eco-friendly jute bags to hundreds of daily commuters, advocating for a plastic-free lifestyle. The team also conducted a targeted awareness campaign, distributing informative pamphlets and engaging with locals to highlight the environmental hazards of plastic use and the importance of adopting greener alternatives.
Adding an interactive and inspiring element to the event, children enthusiastically participated by creating original environmental slogans. Some of the standout entries included: Nature makes you grow, nature teaches you how to grow. and Be the change before the change consumes nature. The most creative slogans were recognized and awarded by the Trust, reinforcing the message that young voices can lead meaningful change.
Taking the initiative beyond human concerns, the Trust also installed bird-feeding stations along the cleaned routes an effort to support the city’s avian population and underline the importance of caring for all life forms in the urban ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, Nidarshana Gowani shared, “World Environment Day is not a duty, it’s a privilege. The environment gives us every breath we take. It’s time we start giving back.”
