Bharat Taxi Accelerates Expansion, Eyes Nationwide Rollout by 2029

New Delhi, Aug 17: Bharat Taxi is expanding its driver and customer network as the cooperative-based mobility platform prepares to strengthen its presence across India over the next few years.

As of July 25, the platform had enrolled nearly 8 lakh drivers and around 41 lakh customers. The service is already operating in several parts of the country and plans to enter more cities as it works towards a wider national presence by 2029.

Unlike the conventional ride-hailing model, Bharat Taxi follows a cooperative structure, allowing participating drivers, known as Sarathis, to become members of the platform. Its zero-commission approach is designed to allow drivers to retain their fare earnings while having a stake in the cooperative.

The platform provides multiple mobility options, including cabs, autos, bike taxis, rentals, outstation services and scheduled rides. Its pricing model also focuses on greater transparency, with the aim of giving passengers clearer information about fares before they book a journey.

The next phase of expansion is expected to cover cities such as Ranchi, Patna, Guwahati, Bhopal, Kolkata, Indore and Nagpur. Increasing its presence in these markets could help the platform reach a larger customer base while creating additional earning opportunities for drivers.

Bharat Taxi is also seeking to encourage greater participation of women in the mobility sector. Through initiatives such as Sarathi Didi, women passengers can access services involving women drivers, while the Bike Didi programme is intended to create more opportunities for women in two-wheeler-based mobility services.

The platform is also building digital and institutional partnerships aimed at making its services more convenient for drivers and passengers. These efforts include integration with digital public infrastructure as well as services related to payments, banking, insurance and transportation.

The expansion comes as app-based mobility becomes an increasingly important part of urban transportation in India. For passengers, wider competition could provide more choices, while drivers may benefit from additional platforms and earning opportunities.

However, expanding across the country will require Bharat Taxi to maintain consistent service standards, build a dependable driver network and ensure smooth customer support as it enters new markets.

The cooperative model gives Bharat Taxi a distinct identity in India’s ride-hailing sector. Its long-term success will depend on how effectively it combines technology, affordable mobility and sustainable opportunities for drivers.

With a growing network of drivers and customers, Bharat Taxi is positioning itself for a larger role in India’s mobility market. Its planned expansion could offer passengers more choices while giving drivers a greater role in the platform they help operate, making the company’s nationwide growth an important development to watch through 2029.
