Mumbaikars took oath to quit smoking at Borivali Railway station on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day

Mumbai: ‘World No Tobacco Day’ is celebrated every year in Mumbai and adjoining cities with great enthusiasm. Various activities are being carried out in government and private hospitals, charitable organizations and schools and colleges in the city on the occasion of Tobacco Day. World No Tobacco Day provides an ideal platform to launch various anti-tobacco campaigns, rallies, marches, and public debates, involving people from all walks of life.

On this occasion Apex Group of Hospitals conducted a special assembly to make the citizens at the Borivali railway station aware about the harmful consequences of tobacco. Posters were made by doctors & nurses where more than 40 citizens took oath to quit smoking after counselling by doctors from Apex Hospital, Borivali.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tanvi Shah, Director, Apex Group of Hospitals, said,“ 8 million people are killed by tobacco products every year & 1 million people die annually from exposure to second-hand smoke. It is very important to explain the ill effects of addiction to the citizens who are addicted to tobacco. If you are a smoker, try to quit. If you are a non-addict, encourage others to quit. Citizens who smoke and are addicted to tobacco have a 50 percent higher risk of serious illness and death. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, tobacco use can lead to four major non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic lung disease and diabetes. “

Tobacco use and smoking are very harmful to health. Tobacco use poses a serious health risk and often carries a life-threatening illness. Smokers inhale toxic chemicals, which not only damage the airways and lungs but also deprives the body of oxygen, thereby making them more prone to developing pneumonia and other life-threatening respiratory conditions. Cancer is one of them! Apex Group of Hospitals will carry out various activities in the western suburbs in the next 15 days.
