Ambuja Cements’ Sports Initiative Transforms 13-Year-Old Kiranpal Kaur into a National Kho-Kho Champion from Punjab

Chandigarh, Mar 25: Ambuja Cements, the 9th largest building materials solutions provider globally and part of the diversified Adani Portfolio, through its CSR initiatives, is driving transformative change in rural communities across India by nurturing young talent through its Physical Literacy and Sports Promotion Program.

Kiranpal Kaur, a 13-year-old student in Class VII at Government Senior Secondary School, Bulladewala, Bathinda, comes from a family where both parents work hard to make ends meet, her father as a daily-wage labourer and her mother supports the household alongside him. For Kiranpal, sports was never a part of her world until Ambuja Cements’ CSR efforts intervened.

In April 2025, Kiranpal enrolled in Ambuja Cements’ After-School Programme under the Education Support initiative. She was introduced to the game, Kho-Kho, began training in the evenings with dedicated coaches, and quickly found a passion she had not experienced before. What started as curiosity soon became a commitment.

Kiranpal’s progress was rapid. By the end of 2025, she earned a place in her school’s girls Kho-Kho team and gained competitive match experience at the district level. In December 2025, she represented her team at an interstate competition which was a stepping stone that sharpened her skills and resilience.

In January 2026, Kiranpal attended the Punjab trials for the National Sub-Junior Kho-Kho Team in Patiala. Her consistent hard work, guided by the programme’s structured training, earned her a coveted spot in Team Punjab.

From 31 January to 4 February 2026, Kiranpal played in the National Sub-Junior Kho-Kho Championship, where she emerged as one of the team’s key players. Punjab finished third, a historic achievement for a girl who had never stepped onto a sports field just nine months prior. Her parents, teachers, and the entire village of Bulladewala celebrated her feat, and she has since become an inspiration to children across her community.

Ambuja Cements’ commitment to physical literacy and sports promotion is creating pathways for underprivileged youth to discover their potential and build confidence beyond the classroom. Kiranpal’s story is a testament to what structured support, consistent mentoring, and the right opportunity can achieve. It reiterates their belief that champions can come from anywhere.
