With its warm waters, uncrowded breaks, and postcard-perfect surf conditions, the Maldives has long been a magnet for wave chasers. From beginner-friendly swells to once-in-a-lifetime barrels, the Indian Ocean’s playground offers something for every surfer. At Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, guests are invited to build their surf confidence with expert coaching in the tranquil lagoon or set out by boat to iconic reef breaks such as Sultans.

As the Maldives’ surf season reaches its peak in September 2025, Kuda Huraa will once again play host to the most exclusive event in luxury surfing, the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy. Returning for its 13th edition from September 4–11, this unique invitational brings together surfing greats to compete on single, twin, and thruster boards in one thrilling week-long showdown.
The first two names confirmed for the 2025 roster include Australia’s Craig Anderson, a revered figure in the free-surfing world, and Brazilian powerhouse Jesse Mendes, known for his style and technical precision. With USD 25,000 and a coveted place in the Surfing Champions Trophy Hall of Fame on the line, the event promises unforgettable moments in one of the world’s most stunning surf backdrops.
“I’m so stoked I got the call-up,” said Craig Anderson. “The Surfing Champions Trophy looks insanely fun. I’ve only been to the Maldives once — on my honeymoon — so I’m excited to pack a few more boards this time. I’m no contest surfer but I’ve kept an eye on this event for years and always wanted to be part of it. Alternate boards in perfect waves? Can’t wait!”
The format sees surfers face off in age-based heats on a range of surfboards, culminating in a Grand Final where competitors select their board of choice. True to tradition, invitees and their families are encouraged to immerse themselves in the island experience — whether it’s lagoon-based learning, garden island charm, or world-class dining. After a day in the waves, guests can unwind at The Island Spa, a sanctuary reached by traditional dhoni, where signature treatments like the Islander Massage offer a restorative blend of South Asian healing techniques.
