Mumbai: Although the number of Covid patients in the state is less, there is a spike in Covid cases in China, Japan, Brazil, and America. Doctors suggest following Covid protocol during the festive season (Christmas and New Year).
There is a spurt in Covid cases in China and Japan. People from all over the world visited Qatar, to witness FIFA World Cup 2022. Now, everyone is back in their countries after the tournament ended. The possibility of re-infection through this medium is high. As the number of patients is likely to increase in India as well, it is necessary to take precautions.
“Priority should be given to hand hygiene and masks. Due to vaccination, people don’t take Covid seriously anymore. But, due to the increasing cases abroad, it is necessary to be careful,” said Dr. Manish Pendse, Consultant Physician, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai.
While the temperature is dropping, it has also come to light that Covid cases are increasing in China. So it is necessary for citizens to take precautions. As December 31 approaches, many people plan vacations. In such a case, the mask should be used while going to crowded places. Also, those who have not taken a booster dose should take it immediately.
Do not touch your mouth, nose, eyes, and ears without washing your hands. Take shawls and warm clothes if you are traveling with elderly people and children. Carry medicine for ailments like fever, body ache, cough, headache, and stomach problems.
“Carry essential medicines especially if you are traveling with small children. Children get cold and flu when traveling,” said Dr. Ajit Shetty, Consultant Physician, SRV Hospital, Goregaon.
It is important for people to get tested for Covid-19 before traveling, if they have symptoms like fever, cough, difficulty breathing, or if they have a chronic illness such as diabetes or have had lung problems due to previous complications such as pneumonia. This test should be done in authorized laboratories.
“A large number of people are busy with celebrations during Christmas and New Year. Avoid going to crowded places like restaurants and clubs while partying. It is necessary to take care that we do not put our lives in danger while celebrating,” concluded Dr. Pendse.
