September 04, 2024: Apollo Hospitals, India’s largest vertically integrated healthcare provider, proudly announces the launch of the Apollo Research Academy, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at positioning Apollo as a global leader in healthcare research and innovation. The Academy, led by Professor Ravi P Mahajan CBE, is set to harmonize the efforts of various Apollo entities, including Apollo Health Education and Research Foundation (AHERF), Apollo University, ARI, Apollo Research Centre, Apollo Clinical Innovation Group, and others, to create a cohesive and internationally recognized hub of research excellence.

Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder & Chairman, Apollo Hospitals said: “The Apollo Research Academy embodies the spirit of “One Apollo,” leveraging the collective strengths of the group’s diverse research and educational organizations. This strategic alignment is designed to enhance Apollo’s research potential, foster collaboration, and build partnerships with eminent national and international funding and research organizations. By integrating the expertise of these entities, the Academy aims to transition from being “research active” to becoming a global leader in healthcare research and innovation, with a significant impact on health care and policy.”

Dr Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals said: “Our ambition is to establish a world-class Academy that will drive innovation, facilitate groundbreaking research, and position Apollo as a preferred partner for industry and academic collaborations globally. Apollo Hospitals already have the building blocks to delve deeper into education and research. The ARA will act as a natural extension arm that will propel Apollo beyond current achievements and focus on the future of medicine.”

The Academy will focus on five key areas: Capacity and Culture, Sponsored Research, Investigator-Driven/Grant-Funded Research, Data Sciences, and Innovation. Each area will be developed through a strategic framework that includes:

  • Capacity and Culture: With a comprehensive program of educational courses, skill-enhancing events, and resource sharing, and with ambitious collaborative projects for research and innovation across and beyond the Apollo ecosystem.
  • Sponsored Research: Expanding this portfolio by establishing a consortium approach, and strengthening partnership working with Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
  • Investigator-Driven Research: Building consortiums on areas of national priority, and strategic international collaborations and partnerships to further enhance our research programs and outputs targeted at best possible world class healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Data Sciences: Establishing an internationally recognized Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine, focusing on research outputs, grant funding and innovations.
  • Innovation: Developing well-coordinated innovation hubs, incubators, and accelerators, harnessing talent, and establishing strong partnerships nationally and internationally to drive programs for translation of innovative ideas into working reality.
The Apollo Research Academy will operate under a robust three-tier governance structure, ensuring effective oversight and strategic direction. The Executive Steering Group, led by Ms. Preetha Reddy- Vice Chairperson, AHEL, and other key leaders, will guide the Academy’s vision and objectives. A Program Board, comprising heads of member organizations, will oversee the day-to-day operations, while individual project boards will manage specific initiatives and consortiums.
