Nagpur: Global Indian International School (GIIS) Nagpur proudly hosted the School Cinema International Film Festival (SCIFF) for the second consecutive year, bringing an enriching cinematic experience directly to students. The festival, which ran from 15th August to 31st August 2024, showcased over 80 films from more than 20 countries, offering a unique blend of entertainment and education.
This year’s festival expanded upon the success of the previous edition, creating a dynamic platform for students and parents to explore global cinema in the comfort of the school environment. By integrating film into the educational landscape, GIIS hopes to foster creativity, cultural awareness, and critical thinking among its students.
Speaking on the successful completion of the festival, Syed Sultan Ahmed, Director, SCIFF expressed his satisfaction with the continued partnership with Global Schools Group. “Renewing SCIFF at GIIS Nagpur for a second year has reinforced our shared commitment to provide the transformative educational experiences through cinema. The positive impact of our previous collaboration motivated us to continue this journey, leveraging the power of films to inspire and educate,” he said.
The festival’s lineup featured a diverse range of over 80 exceptional films, spanning various genres and languages from animated adventures to thought-provoking documentaries. The selection process ensured that each film resonated with students’ lives and aspirations, providing both entertainment and significant educational value. Highlighting the film festival’s vision, Ms. Nidhi Gupta, Principal, Global Indian International School, Nagpur stated, By offering world-class cinema directly to our students, we create an opportunity for them to engage with diverse narratives in a familiar and comfortable environment. Our aim is to equip the next generation with a global outlook and to strengthen their critical thinking skills.
Students and parents were captivated by a range of films, including “The Road to Victory,” “Bean Boy,” “Leap of Faith,” and “She Creates Change: Diksha,” to name a few. These films were thoughtfully selected to appeal to different age groups and interests. The festival not only provided entertainment but also sparked meaningful discussions and reflections, broadening students’ understanding of the world.
The festival offers a unique cinematic experience, featuring rare films from around the world that are carefully chosen to support the developmental needs of children. As students come together to watch these engaging stories, they gain deeper insights and shared experiences that enhance their understanding of themselves and others. These films often address questions that children may be hesitant to ask, helping them realize that their challenges are not unique but shared by many.
Parents are also invited to join this enriching experience, as it provides a valuable opportunity to connect with their children through the powerful narratives presented on screen. By witnessing a child’s journey in the film, parents can better understand their own child’s emotions and thoughts, fostering meaningful conversations around the film’s themes. This event not only promises entertainment but also serves as a platform for surprising, heart-to-heart conversations that strengthen family bonds.
The event concluded with a closing ceremony attended by students, parents, educators, and film enthusiasts. It was a celebration of the power of cinema to educate, entertain, and inspire. The festival underscored the school’s commitment to innovative education and cultural enrichment, making it a highlight on the school’s annual calendar.
Looking ahead, GIIS Nagpur is enthusiastic about continuing this enriching tradition. As Ms. Nidhi Gupta added, We are delighted with the success of this year’s festival and eagerly anticipate many more editions where we can continue to use cinema as a powerful tool for learning and personal development of our students.
