Many commercial or industrial businesses must adhere to well-regulated lighting standards. Learn about some of the different types of bulbs for these fixtures.

The Most Common Types of Industrial Light Bulbs

Whether it’s an office area, warehouse, factory, or retail store, commercial businesses rely on lighting. OSHA has implemented firm lighting standards for the safety and well-being of employees, customers, clients, and other people who may be in the area. Here are some of the most common types of industrial light bulbs found in commercial properties.

Fluorescent

Fluorescent light bulbs are commonplace in retail stores and other large buildings. These bulbs have a long lifespan of up to 24,000 hours and are durable and efficient. However, many businesses are phasing them out because many fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, requiring additional precautions if they break.

LED

LED bulbs are one of the most popular options in businesses and places where customers or clients spend a lot of time at a desk. LED bulbs are long-lasting, energy-efficient, and good for the environment due to their recyclable components. While there are still many myths about LED light bulbs, they’re well worth the investment for a commercial property looking to make a positive change.

Halogen

After LEDs, halogens are among the most common types of industrial light bulbs. They create light by running a wire filament through an enclosed tube. Halogens produce a bright white light that’s great for spotlights, headlights, and accent lights for marking walkways or stairs. Compared to other lighting options, halogen bulbs have a shorter lifespan of around 4,000 hours.

Incandescent

Incandescent bulbs are the most common bulbs on the market right now. Many residential or commercial buildings use these bulbs, which create light through a wire that illuminates via heat. Many industries are phasing incandescent bulbs out and replacing them with LED bulbs due to incandescent bulbs having shorter lifespans and generating a lot of heat to stay lit. These bulbs have shorter lifespans than other models, usually not lasting more than 1,000 hours. However, the bulbs are affordable, effective, and work in almost any standard environment, making them a practical choice.
