Mumbai, June 06th, 2025: In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, Sanathan Textiles Limited, a leader in India’s textile manufacturing industry, reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by launching an impactful ‘Plastic-to-Plant’ Exchange Drive in collaboration with Sila. This two-day initiative, held across Mumbai and Silvassa on June 3 and 4, encouraged community participation in the circular economy and drove positive climate action at the grassroots level.
As part of the drive, the invited members of the public referred as “green champions”— were invited to deposit a minimum of 200 grams of plastic waste in exchange for a plant sapling. The initiative witnessed overwhelming participation, with 2,500 saplings distributed, thereby creating 2,500 micro green zones in homes, offices, and communities. The initiative successfully diverted 500 kilograms of plastic from landfills. This recycling effort also supports measurable climate action. The plants distributed through the drive are expected to absorb an estimated 625–750 grams of CO₂ per day, amounting to approximately 228–274 kilograms annually—a lasting carbon offset initiative with local impact.
Recognising the initiative’s impact, Sanathan was invited by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to conduct a special session for 80 BMC Officials, where the company shared insights on the circular initiative, distributed plants, and encouraged pledges to reduce plastic use.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr Sammir D Dattani, Executive Director, Sanathan Textiles said, “This initiative aligns perfectly with the World Environment Day 2025 theme – Our Land. Our Future. It reflects our belief that sustainability is not just about internal transformation but also about inspiring community participation. By merging ESG priorities with collective citizen action, we are trying to foster a sense of environmental responsibility that is accessible, impactful, and scalable”
We were also honoured to have the support of civic authorities. Mr Anaji Mane from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), said “We believe that change begins at the ground level—with individuals making conscious choices. Sanathan’s initiative is a brilliant example of circularity in action, aligning with Mumbai’s climate goals while empowering our staff to adopt more sustainable practices both professionally and personally. With climate challenges intensifying each year, partnerships like these are vital. Every sapling planted and every gram of plastic diverted contributes meaningfully to creating micro-climate interventions across our city—bringing us closer to a more climate-resilient Mumbai”
This initiative is reflective of Sanathan Textiles’ dual approach—driving environmental progress through sustainable production and engaging the community through meaningful, action-oriented CSR. Sanathan Textiles also makes ‘Sanathan Reviro’ which uses 90% less water, 60% less energy and emits 26% fewer greenhouse gases.
