26 October 2023: Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) welcomed an innovative climate technology company Carbon Alert. A first-of-its-kind business in the Northern Emirates, the company is focused on reducing overall global carbon emissions by providing high-quality carbon credits to regulated markets.
RAKEZ Group CEO Ramy Jallad, Carbon Alert Co-Founder Jacobus Merksteijn and RAKEZ strategic advisor from Qadvisory Ayman Al Yamani, were present at the signing ceremony held at Compass Coworking Centre in Ras Al Khaimah to mark the company’s registration.
Jallad said, “We are thrilled to welcome Carbon Alert to the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and our community of companies offering sustainable solutions. It’s important that organisations, as well as individuals, adopt and promote environmentally sustainable practices and support the UAE’s initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and other related issues.”
“The company has joined our ecosystem at a perfect time as the UAE is set to host COP 28, where it can present its solutions. Through this platform, they can approach international firms that wish to do their part in reducing carbon footprints and contribute to the global mission of achieving net zero emissions by 2050,” he added.
At the moment, Carbon Alert will be offering high quality, high additionality carbon credits from selected trusted projects. Merksteijn said, “RAKEZ is the ideal base for us as it’s centrally located between the European, American and Asian timezones suitable for international trade. Setting up here was very smooth and efficient with the team prioritising the entire process. It’s not just the quick set-up timelines, they understood our unique requirements and flexibly accommodated everything needed to help us get up and running.”
Al Yamani highlighted how this unique technology will be a game changer, “Most of the existing carbon initiatives are quite expensive prompting governments to pay the carbon tax instead of buying credits. But Carbon Alert’s solutions will help turn this around.”
In the near future, Carbon Alert plans to explore opportunities for installing its proprietary and patented CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal) technology in the desert terrain of the UAE and also assist local industrial companies with carbon certification.
