
New Delhi, April 2023: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in its commitment to deliver quality and holistic education, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP). MGIEP is a category 1 UNESCO research institute in education that focuses on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal towards education for building peaceful and sustainable societies across the world.
Prof. (Dr.) T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, said, “Under this MoU, AICTE and MGIEP will collaborate to develop programs that promote social-emotional learning, innovative digital pedagogies, build capacities of teachers and learners, and inform education policy through scientific research.”
Prof. Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE, said, “The goal of this collaboration is to equip the youth with social, emotional, and critical thinking skills to tackle challenging situations and guide educators on how to help young people become resilient future leaders.”
Professor Dr. Anantha Duraiappah, Director, MGIEP, during the MoU signing, said, “The collaboration between AICTE and MGIEP is a significant step towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal towards education for building peaceful and sustainable societies across the world. The training and learning modules will also include climate change enrichment and Biodiversity-‘Understand Reflect Empathize and Act’”
Dr. Richa Bansal, National Project Officer, said, “This MoU will ensure that learners have an understanding of the challenges facing our environment and are equipped with the skills to tackle these challenges. Furthermore, digital teacher learning courses for faculty members will enhance their familiarity with digital pedagogical tools, digital course design, and digital assessment design, as per the need of the hour. This will ensure that faculty members are well-equipped to deliver quality education using the latest digital tools and techniques. It is expected to benefit learners, educators, and the education sector as a whole.
