Gurugram, Jan 13: Reinforcing its commitment to preventive healthcare and early cancer detection, Manipal Hospital Gurugram, in collaboration with the Manipal Foundation, has launched a free cancer screening camp called ‘Kawach’ at Shivalaya, Daulatabad, Gurugram, aimed at improving access to early diagnosis among underserved women in Gurugram. The objective of the camp is to provide essential healthcare services directly to communities that often face barriers to timely medical care. The special cancer screening camp was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Ms. Kumudini Rakesh Daulatabad, who actively supported the initiative for the health and well-being of residents in the area.
The screening drive, starting from this month, aims to screen approximately 5,000 women between the ages of 18 and 65 years across multiple villages, including Choma, Dundehra, Muldehra, Daultabad, and Carterpuri. The initiative will focus on general wellness checks along with screening for oral, breast, and cervical cancers, enabling early identification of high-risk cases and timely referrals for further treatment. Women found with suspicious symptoms will be immediately referred to nearby hospitals for further evaluation and management, ensuring continuity of care beyond the camp setting.
Dr. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Vice Chairman – Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre & Onco Robotic Surgeries, North-West Cluster, Manipal Hospital, Gurugram, said, “Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality in India. Many common cancers, such as breast, cervical, and oral cancer, can be treated when detected at an early stage, often with better treatment and outcomes. Unfortunately, we still see a large number of patients coming in only after symptoms become severe. Regular screening plays a vital role in detecting cancers early, often before symptoms appear, which significantly improves treatment outcomes. Initiatives like these play a significant role in reducing late-stage diagnoses and improving survival rates, especially among women who may not seek medical advice until the disease has progressed.”
Highlighting the urgent need for such outreach programs, Mr. Harinarayan Sharma, CEO – Manipal Foundation said, “Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen access to preventive care by providing structured health screenings, personalised on-ground counselling, and seamless referral support to the communities that need it the most. ‘Kawach’ acts as a protective shield, helping identify risks early, addressing concerns on the spot, and guiding the patient towards the right medical support without fear or hesitation.”
