Mandi, April 16th, 2025: A proud moment for IIT Mandi as M.Sc. Physics 2023 students of School of Physics – Anit Kaur, Bhavana, Kumar Ashish and Bhanu Pratap Singh – have been selected to participate in PLANCKS 2025 (Physics League Across Numerous Countries for Kick-ass Students), an international competition that will be held from May 1-5, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, hosted by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
The rigorous national selection process saw 41 teams from across the country participating from prestigious institutes like IISc, IITs and IISERs. Three teams have been selected from across India, with IIT Mandi being the only IIT to be selected for this international competition. These students had secured second position in the Indian Young Physicists League (IYPL) 2025. They will now represent not only IIT Mandi but the whole of India at the international level. The competition brings together talented undergraduate and postgraduate students from over 25 countries.
Dr. Bindu Radhamani, Chairperson, School of Physical Sciences, IIT Mandi, said, “The selection of four students from our school for PLANCKS 2025 is a commendable achievement. Such academic competitions will enrich the students’ experience and global cultural exchange.”
He further added, “Teams from prestigious institutes of the country participated in the competition and faced difficult physics challenges. IIT Mandi was one of the top contenders among the Indian teams selected for PLANCKS 2025. The students expressed enthusiasm about the event and said that it is a matter of pride for us to represent IIT Mandi on a global platform. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our talent and get the institute recognized at the international level.”
PLANCKS is the flagship annual competition of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS), being organized for the last 10 years. It is an international event that brings together talented UG and PG students from across the world on one platform to compete in the ultimate competition in physics. This year, teams from over 25 countries will be participating in the event. The event provides a unique environment for collaboration, enlightenment and innovation.
